Diamonds and Diamond Laboratories - 2007

Our Business Philosophy

With all the information that is available to everyone with the Internet and with other sources, it is critical to use the professional help of a local jeweler who is educated with years of experience but more importantly with current education. It doesn't matter at all how long ago the original business was established, it's what the current owners and staff's experience is NOW and how up to date they are with the ever-changing industry of today, not yesterday.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we will find and match you up with the perfect diamond, no matter what price range, and with our staffs total combined experience of over 80 years, we will make it the most relaxing simple experience you will find anywhere.

We also guarantee to be the best price you can find on any comparable diamond anywhere. We will match or beat any Internet deal, and any "special wholesale price" you find anywhere! Come in and let us prove it! Tell us what you want or what you found and we'll get you a better deal or a better diamond. It's your money!

We are also not one of those stores who have commissioned salespeople who just want to sell you the "special bonus" diamond for a greater commission. We will help you find the right diamond for "your needs."

The Beginning of a Gemological Institute

In 1929, Robert Shipley formulated a plan for a new business combining his love of the arts, his jewelry experience and his gemological knowledge.

By December 1930, Shipley had solidified his concept of professionalizing the jewelry industry. After the completion of his initial lecture courses, he met with a few selected jewelers and started "THE GEMOLOGICAL IDEA."

"THE GEMOLOGICAL IDEA" was a guild of professionally educated, ethically minded jewelers, all graduates of a scientific curriculum of gemology taught through mail order lessons, study groups, and extensive proctored exams leading to a professional title.

The reaction was mixed, "Some were enthusiastic," recalled Shipley, "but others were doubtful." The situation was saved by his suggestion of two organizations; one would be an educational institute while the other would be a professional guild called the Gemological Society. Shipley asked them to help him start what he ingeniously called back in 1931, The Gemological Institute of America (GIA). In 1934, The American Gem Society (AGS).

With great foresight, Shipley wrote, "The effect of GIA training would raise the jeweler to a position in his community similar to a lawyer or physician...creating nationwide knowledge and interest in diamonds and gems, which would result in entirely new outlets for such merchandise. And, within a few years, intelligent buyers will look for the GIA or AGS emblem before making a purchase of diamonds or gems." The study of the early GIA and AGS is a portrait of both vision and commitment. Our forefathers gave us a great foundation of knowledge and integrity, setting a standard for behavior long into the future.

We at The Diamond Gallery of Naperville recommend and carry the following diamond laboratories certificates, in order to insure guaranteed quality assurance:

AGS, GIA, GCAL, and EGL
